It’s finally here! What, 2019? Nah that’s been here for two weeks already, it’s old news. I’m talking about the long anticipated DadGeek visual overhaul! I know, I’m excited too. Oh and Happy New Year!
We now have a super-shiny new logo and it’s already spread it’s way across onto all our social media. Much as I loved our old logo when I made it, over time it felt like it wasn’t standing the test of time and had begun to feel dated. The new logo is clean, functional and I think it’s going to do us well over the next few years.
We’ve also undergone some basic structural changes too! The old categories that we used to use have been streamline down into a few really useful ones. Not only will it make the site easier to use but it’ll hopefully help Google make more sense of it too!
This is actually the third logo in two years so we’re really hoping to stick with this one for a while. When we started DadGeek back in 2017 we didn’t have a real feel yet for what we were doing. As a result the first logo was a bit thrown together on a whim. It is what I refer to as the ‘sports direct’ version of our logo.
It’s not horrendous but it doesn’t really look very professional and people were enquiring about the price of basketballs too often for it to be practical. It also relies on the old ‘bevel and dropshadow’ that I was using far too often in Photoshop at the time. I quickly set about designing something new which is where we came up with the logo most of you may be familiar with. I refer to this one as ‘the beer bottle logo’.
This one has hung around for a while and to be fair to it, it’s been the predominant part of our image for a long time. My main issues have always been that it didn’t fit at the top of our site so we always had to have the ‘other’ logo there which didn’t make a great amount of sense.
So, now we have our new, clean, sassy logo and a new energy with which to spring into 2019! As usual we’d love to hear what people think and any input is greatly appreciated. We’re huge fans of everyone that interacts with the site and your comments and engagement on social media is what gets us up in the morning!
So what are we up to this year?
As usual our main focus is going to continue to be on reviewing as many of the latest toys and kid-friendly products as we are able to. We’ve worked with some great companies last year and they provided us with loads to work with. It was great to see the response from you guys, especially when our reviews led to you getting those toys yourselves! I also loved that our Glow-in-the-Dark Slime review was helpful to people getting to grips with the product themselves (see our YouTube comments)!
We’ve got some great reviews coming up soon so keep your eyes peeled and don’t forget to subscribe for our updates!
We’re really hoping to add a lot more movie reviews to the site this year, especially those that are big releases for families. We were lucky enough to be invited to the press viewing of Bumblebee but were sadly unable to attend. Hopefully we’ll get to see loads of cool movies this year and let you know what we think!
We haven’t decided on where we’re going to be checking out this year so if you know of any great places we should check out, let us know!
Perhaps one of the most exciting things so far is that we’re going to be visiting ToyFair 2019! It’s the biggest expo for new toys and kid products in the UK so we’re really excited to be going and checking out the buzz for the year ahead!
As always, thanks for all your support in 2018 and we’re hoping 2019 is going to be even more filled with fun content, great toys and great days out!
