That’s right! It’s World Tetris Day! Everyone’s favourite Russian construction simulator was released 34 years ago today! Ever since, generations have been dropping the long thin ones down the side and frantically spinning the awkward S-shaped ones until leaving a gap that leads to their ultimate downfall.
Tetris was created in 1984 by Russian programmer Alexey Pajitnov and even today is regarded as one of the greatest and most popular puzzle games in gaming history. Due to issues securing the copyright for the game it has now been released in hundreds of iterations across every conceivable platform including watches and calculators. It’s a game so devilishly simple that children and grandparents alike can enjoy it.
To celebrate World Tetris Day (currently trending under #WorldTetrisDay) we’re giving away a free copy of the physical tabletop game Tetris Dual! The eagle-eyed among you will remember we reviewed it last month and we had a great time. Now you can be the lucky owners of your very own copy! Scroll down and use the Rafflecopter widget at the bottom of the page to enter and you could be the proud owner of your very own tabletop tetris!
Tetris Dual is a physical Tetris board where opponents drop pieces in an attempt to score points and bamboozle the other player, not unlike Connect 4. A display tells players what pieces to drop. As they drop the pieces into the transparent tower, they must score points for touching pieces of the same colour together and creating lines, whilst losing points for creating unfillable gaps.
If you’re not yet convinced of how enriched your life may become by having your very own Tetris Dual or you’re not sufficiently excited about #worldtetrisday then take a look at our full review here.
The competition will run until 13th June and winners will be notified by email. Entrants must be based in the UK or Republic of Ireland. Good luck!
